Joan and Wade Webster
Joan and Wade Webster established their scholarship fund at the Community Foundation in 1996 - it was the first. Since then, more than 17 youth have participated in the Webster's scholarship program.
"We knew we had a number of choices when it came to forming a scholarship fund and decided to use the Community foundation for several reasons such as service and ease of administration," said Wade Webster.
With a focus on financial acumen, the Webster's fund incorporates many elements beyond just filling out an application or maintaining a certain GPA. Scholarship recipients are required to attend financial management classes, contribute to an interest-bearing account and read finance-related books and articles.
While reflecting on their fund, Wade stated, "If we get through to one kid, it makes it worthwhile - that kid is better off than they would have been."
"And that kid could change the world," stated Joan.
