December 9, 2011 -- Bringing its total grantmaking to almost $38 million since 1994, the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry recently awarded $176,735 in grants.
The Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) received a grant of $30,000 for its Closet Parent Education and Resource Center. The grant will be used to cover a portion of the costs of building materials.
Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse (CODA) received a grant of $10,229 for its Bluffton outreach. The grant will be used to cover the costs of installing a fully-integrated computer network at its Bluffton location.
The Coastal Discovery Museum received a grant of $25,000 for engineering and design work on its Discovery Lab building.
The Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation received a grant of $8,000 for the Brothers and Sisters Oyster Union Society Hall restoration
Family Promise of Beaufort County received a grant of $25,740 to expand its case management program by hiring a second part-time Case Manager.
Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour received a grant of $15,000 to fund a part-time volunteer coordinator.
Lowcountry Legal Volunteers received a challenge grant of $15,000 for the up fit of a new office space in Bluffton
Neighborhood Outreach Connection (NOC)received a grant of $18,100 for a program to help decrease the achievement gap in language arts and math for pre-K through middle school area students. The grant will provide learning software, teaching and learning materials, and new computers..
Second Helpings received a $29,666 challenge grant for a fifth delivery truck. This is a dollar for dollar challenge grant.
