February 8, 2010 -- To encourage the growth and sustainability of Women in Philanthropy, the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry recently voted to award a matching grant to the Women in Philanthropy in the amount of $20,000. When matched successfully through new member development, it will provide an additional $40,000 to the fund.
"The dedication of the members of Women in Philanthropy is quite phenomenal and the Community Foundation is pleased to support them in their efforts to grow and prosper," said Denise Spencer, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. "Through the power of collective giving, they have made a significant contribution to our community."
New women joining the group can commit anywhere from $250 to $5,000 a year -- money that will go to building the endowment fund. Grantmaking is determined by the membership and goes to programs that support families and individuals in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, the environment, health and human services. Since inception, Women in Philanthropy has awarded $44,000 to local nonprofits.
