Community Foundation Wins Award for Publication

August 16, 2009 HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has been named a gold award winner for excellence in communications by the 2009 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program. Sponsored by the Council on Foundations, the awards program recognizes effective communications efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs.

The Community Foundation received the award for its 2007-2008 annual report. The publication was designed by local firm, World Design Marketing with photography done by Anne Caufmann of Photography by Anne. The piece was written and edited by Carolyn Torgersen, vice president for Marketing and Communications for the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.


Community Foundation of the Lowcountry
Founded in 1994, the mission of the community foundation is to strengthen community by connecting people, resources, and needs. In the years since inception, the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and affiliate Hilton Head Island Foundation have grown through additional gifts and investments and provided more than $26 million in grants to support local nonprofits. In addition to grantmaking, the community foundation focuses on assisting donors to meet their philanthropic goals and acts as a convener of resources to address community concerns. In July 2001, the community foundation expanded to serve residents in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties. For more information, visit our website at
