Grants focus on critical needs
September 14, 2009 BLUFFTON, SC -- The Greater Bluffton Community Endowment Fund recently awarded its inaugural grants totaling $10,000 to four Bluffton-based nonprofits.
Bluffton Self Help received a grant in the amount of $2,000 for food assistance. In the application, they cited the increased need for food contributions due to youth being out of school during the summer and the state of the economy.
The Children's Center - Bluffton received a grant in the amount of $4,000 for the "Children in Crisis" program. This program targets families who are at risk of withdrawing their children due to their economic circumstances. The grant dollars will be used to sponsor a child's continued attendance at the Center.
The Church of the Cross Food Bank received a grant in the amount of $2,000 to purchase a freezer and supplement the protein food purchase for their clients. The goal is to provide two to three days of protein per family they serve.
Meals-on-Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head received a grant in the amount of $2,000 to provide hot meals for income-qualified Bluffton residents. The organization currently serves 30-36 clients daily in the Greater Bluffton area.
"The Greater Bluffton Community Endowment Fund is pleased to be funding these worthy nonprofits and the critical needs they support," said the fund's advisory council chairman, Steve Tilton. "We look forward to having a greater impact on the needs of the Bluffton community as we grow in the future."
The Greater Bluffton Community Endowment Fund was established by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry in 2007.
