Community Foundation of the Lowcountry

Funds

We work with donors, and groups of donors, to best realize your charitable values. The possibilities are as varied as your wishes.

The Community Foundation fund options include:

Unrestricted Funds
Unrestricted funds are not specifically designated for use by a particular agency, cause or area of interest. Our Board of Directors oversees the use of these funds, setting priorities for their use and determining how grants will be distributed to support the charitable needs of our community.   Unrestricted funds give us the ability to respond to pressing and often changing needs in the community.

Donor Advised Funds
Fund advisors actively participate by recommending grants to nonprofit organizations. You may name successor advisors, such as your children, to carry on your family's giving legacy.

Field-of-Interest Funds
Many donors have deeply-held interests and we help you create funds to support those causes. Our donors have targeted such areas as disadvantaged children, the elderly, the performing arts and other community interests. You can also create a fund focused in a specific geographic area within the Lowcountry.

Designated Funds
If you have a specific charitable organization in mind, you may name it to receive distributions from the fund. Should that organizations cease to exist, or the purpose it serves becomes obsolete, the Community Foundation board has the responsibility and authority to re-apply the distributions to a similar charitable organization. Scholarship Funds fall under this category.
