Hospice boasts a clinical staff of 28 members. This is a staff that historically has gone above and beyond, some achieving National Hospice Certification, dipping into their personal savings and taking continuing education classes during their time off without compensation. In order to retain licensure in the state of South Carolina, all clinical members of a Hospice staff must complete a given number of continuing education hours each year. There are very few opportunities to do this in our immediate area; however, Jacksonville, Charlotte, Atlanta and Myrtle Beach are leaders in the provision of clinical continuing education classes, seminars and workshops. Unfortunately, few, if any, of our clinical staff has the time, freedom or the financial means to attend any of them. We would like to make available an additional $1, 000 a year to each of the 28 members of our clinical staff to help defray the cost of travel, lost wages and tuition. These individuals are the heart and soul, not to mention the hands and eyes, of any hospice organization and should be treated as nothing less than invaluable. Please help support this program. To invest in the continuing education of a nurse, certified nurse assistant, social worker or bereavement counselor is to invest in the future of yourself or someone that you love.
Why this connection makes a difference:
Without yearly re-certification, the state of South Carolina can revoke a healthcare worker's license until such continuing education has been completed. Each of our patients has a specialized regime of care tailored to their individual circumstance. This project will provide care workers the opportunity to secure training in a variety of specialized areas specific to the care of those individuals facing a life-threatening illness.
