Enhancements to Our Grantmaking

The Community Foundation has made several significant changes to our grantmaking programs. We expect these modifications to make the grant application process clearer and more concise. Click here to view the changes.

Opportunity Grants
Our Foundation-Directed Grants have a new name, Opportunity Grants, and increased maximum award amount of $10,000. The program’s funding focus remains the same; capital or program grants.  Why the change? The new name better reflects the intent of the program; to provide an opportunity for funding outside of the timeline of our competitive grantmaking process.  While increasing the maximum award amount from $5,000 to $10,000 allows us to respond more rapidly to grant requests with a lower overall dollar amount. You can learn more about this program through the link above.

Community Foundation Grantmaking

The Community Foundation’s grant programs reflect our desire to be innovative, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the Lowcountry. Our grants include those that are open to nonprofit application and those that originate at a donor’s request. Here is a snapshot of our grant programs:

Grants Open to Application

Foundation grants encompass several different programs that comprise the bulk of our annual grantmaking. These grant programs offer opportunities for nonprofit organizations to expand their programming, implement capital projects and develop their capacity.

Community Impact Grants are program grants which stimulate and help launch new programs and projects; or help focus, enhance, and/or expand an organization’s existing programs and services.

Community Investment Grants provide an investment in a large capital project which is a critical enhancement to the mission of the nonprofit organization.

Opportunity Grants may be either program or capital projects that have a grant request amount under $10,000.

Organizational Development Grants offer support for nonprofits to retain a consultant to help strengthen themselves organizationally, increasing their capacity to govern and achieve long-term sustainability.

Grants with Request for Proposal Process

These grant programs typically select a focus area for annual grants, such as literacy or the environment, and issue a request for proposals from local nonprofits. Click on the links below to learn more about each fund and their grant procedures:
